Programming for adults
High School Diploma
We offer a flexible learning model that allows adult students to complete their high school diploma while they continue to work. We recognize life experience - students maybe eligible for up to 26 credits through the Mature Prior Learning Assessment Recognition (mPLAR) program. Students can earn cooperative education credits through their employment or you can look to gain your Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) while simultaneously earning your Personal Support Worker (PSW) certification. We offer flexible online, hybrid, correspondence, summer, and night school courses.
Personal Support Worker (PSW) program
The PSW program provided by Adult and Continuing Education grants high school credits with the completion of the program towards your OSSD. You can become a certified PSW and graduate at the same time. For the 2023-2024 and the 2024-2025 year, our Personal Support Worker program fee of $1500 is waived for eligible students.
Cooperative Education program
In addition to being able to offer cooperative education credits to work towards completing an OSSD, we can also connect you with adult students looking for employment experience. We offer the opportunity to hire a student/potential employee on a trial basis.

Skilled Trades - Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP)
The Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) provides an opportunity for adult learners to earn hours and confirm skills towards an apprenticeship, while completing their high school diploma. If you are looking for a potential apprentice, we can connect you with an adult student interested in pursuing a career in the trades. Full-time adult students, of any age, working towards their OSSD are eligible to participate in the program.
Literacy and Essential Skills (LES)
The LES program. is a skills upgrading program to support learners to move forward towards credit courses or future employment. The Personal Support Worker preparation is also available through this format.
English as a Second Language (ESL) program
The ESL program. offers an opportunity to improve English speaking, listening, reading and writing skills. Certificates are available for eligible students and may be used as proof of language proficiency for citizenship applications.
Dual Credit
The adult Dual Credit program provides adult students with the opportunity to earn college credits at Georgian College that may be applied towards a college diploma or college certificate and a secondary school credit that will count towards their Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD). The 2023-24 dedicated Adult Dual Credit is Personal Finance. However, our adult students may be able to take advantage of other dual credits running at different locations. Career Centre
The Career Centre, operated by the Simcoe County District School Board, has been providing quality employment services to job searchers and employers and the community in Barrie and the surrounding area since 1995.
