About the program
Simcoe County District School Board, in partnership with the government of Ontario, provides English as a Second Language (ESL) training for adults (18+). Our ESL program serves learners at CLB Levels 1–6, from beginner to intermediate. Whether you are just starting to learn English or looking to strengthen your communication skills, our courses are designed to help you gain confidence in real-world situations.
This program might be good for you if you:
- came to Canada as an immigrant or a refugee
- want to improve your English skills to better communicate in your everyday life
- need to improve your English skills to find a job or go to school
Eligibility
You must be a resident of Ontario. You must also be one of the following:
- naturalized Canadian citizen
- permanent resident
- protected person (including Convention refugee)
- refugee claimant
- provincial nominee approved through the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program
- person admitted under a federal caregiver program with a path to permanent residency
- visitors to Canada are welcome based on class availability and are subject to course fees
Schedule for 2025-26
In person classes are currently running in Alliston, Barrie, and Bradford. Students enrolling in online classes will be required to have a computer (with a camera and a microphone) and a consistent and reliable internet connection.

Day Classes - September 2025 to June 2026 (Monday to Friday)
- Semester 1: Sept. 8, 2025 - Jan. 23, 2026
- Semester 2: Feb. 2, 2025 - June 12, 2026
Night Classes - September 2025 to June 2026 (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday)
This program runs three nights per week. Classes run Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 5:30pm to 8:30pm in Barrie.
