Summer School Programs Offered

• 7, 8, and 9 Preparatory Math Program

  This program is designed to prepare students entering grade 7, 8 or 9 in September for the upcoming year’s Math curriculum. 

  Taught by qualified teachers the summer program is designed to be fun and engaging with a focus on social justice. Students must be approved by their principal to register for a Math Prep course.  

  Courses will be held at 5 Learning Centres in Simcoe County and Bear Creek Secondary School in
  Barrie August 13 –24, 2012. 
  Courses will run Monday – Friday, 9 AM – 1 PM. 
  Limited bus transportation is available for this program.

  Current students can use the registration forms below or those available at their school to register.  Elementary students must get approval from their Principal to register for a summer program. 
  
  Completed and approved registration forms can be returned to the student’s school or can be taken your local Learning Centre to complete the registration process.

• 9 & 10 Credit Revival for Math and English

  Students who have taken Grade 9 or 10 Math or English at the applied or academic level can raise their previous mark and become better prepared for the next grade level by participating in this remedial program.  

  Courses will be held at 5 Learning Centres in Simcoe County and Bear Creek Secondary School in Barrie from August 13 – August 24, 2012.
  Courses will run Monday – Friday, 9 AM – 1 PM. 
  Limited bus transportation is available for this program.  

  SCDSB students currently in secondary school will register online and must be approved by their Guidance Department (online approval) to insure the course(s) chosen fit with their future academic plans.

• 9 & 10 Credit Revival for Science

  Courses will run Monday – Thursday, 9 AM – 3 PM.

• Grade 10 Civics and Careers Credit

  These courses allow students to complete their required Civics (CHV2O) and/or Careers (GLC2O) during the summer. 

  Each course is offered in a 2 week schedule at Innisdale Secondary School in Barrie with limited bus transportation available.  

  Civics dates are July 3 – 16, 2012. 
  Careers dates are July 17 – 30, 2012.
  Courses will run Monday – Friday, 9 AM – 3 PM.  

  There is a $10 student Activity Fee (cash only) for each of these courses due at time of registration.

  SCDSB students currently in secondary school will register online and must be approved by their Guidance Department (online approval) to insure the course(s) chosen fit with their future academic plans.  Students must then go to their local Learning Centre to complete their registration and pay the Student Activity Fee for their chosen course(s). 

  

  All other current students can use the registration forms below or those available at their school to register.  Students must get approval from their Principal, Vice Principal or Guidance Department to register for a summer program.  Students must the take their approved form to their local Learning Centre to complete their registration and pay the Student Activity Fee.

• Grade 11 and 12 Credit Courses

  This program offers students the opportunity to complete a senior credit course during the summer months.  

  Courses are offered at Innisdale Secondary School, July 3 – 30 or at the Barrie or Orillia Learning Centres, July 31 – August 28.
  Courses will run Monday – Friday, 9 AM – 3 PM. 
  Limited bus transportation is available for July courses only.

  There is a $20 student Activity Fee (cash only) for each of these courses due at time of registration. There is an additional $80 textbook deposit fee (cash only) due on the first day of class.

  SCDSB students currently in secondary school will register online and must be approved by their Guidance Department (online approval) to insure the course(s) chosen fit with their future academic plans. Students must then go to their local Learning Centre to complete their registration and pay the Student Activity Fee for their chosen course(s). 

  

  All other current students can use the registration forms below or those available at their school to register. Students must get approval from their Principal, Vice Principal or Guidance Department to register for a summer program. Students must the take their approved form to their local Learning Centre to complete their registration and pay the Student Activity Fee.

  Students not currently enrolled in a school must visit their local Learning Centre to enrol. Please take a copy of your transcript or status sheet to allow Learning Centre staff to have the correct enrollment information. The Student Activity Fee is due at time of registration.

• Cooperative Education

  This 2 credit cooperative education package is being offered to SCDSB students enrolled in SHSM, OYAP, LEAP, Over the Top or Adult programs from July 4 – August 17, 2012. 

  Students must be referred to the program by their home school and approved by their Principal, Vice Principal or Guidance Department.

  The student must have a Simcoe County placement arranged at time of registration. The employer must be made aware of the co-op requirements.  Paid employment may be approved. Unpaid placements are equally considered.

  Co-op students will be required to attend and participate in a minimum of 3 group sessions before and during the co-op program. All co-op students will demonstrate new learning at their co-op placement as outlined in their Personal Placement Learning Plan (PPLP).

  A registration form, status sheet and IEP information must be submitted by June 15, 2012 to your local Learning Centre. 

  There is a $20 Student Activity Fee (cash only) due at time of registration.
