Summer School Programs Offered

• 7, 8, and 9 Preparatory Math Program

  This program is designed to prepare students entering grade 7, 8 or 9 in September for the upcoming year’s Math curriculum. 

  Taught by qualified teachers the summer program is designed to be fun and engaging with a focus on social justice. Students must be approved by their principal to register for a Math Prep course.  

  Courses will be held at 5 Learning Centres in Simcoe County and Bear Creek Secondary School in Barrie.
  August 12 –23, 2013 
  Monday – Friday, 9 AM – 1 PM 

  Limited bus transportation is available for this program.  Bus Route information will be available here June 2013.

  SCDSB students currently in elementary school can register online. The Principal at the home school will electronically approve the student's choice.

  

  Non-SCDSB students please use the registration form available on this page to register.  Elementary students must get approval from their Principal to register for a summer program.  Completed and approved registration forms can be returned to the student’s school or can be taken to your local Learning Centre to complete the registration process.

• 9 & 10 Science & English Credit Upgrade

  Students who have taken Grade 9 or 10 Science or English at the applied or academic level can raise their previous mark and become better prepared for the next grade level by participating in this remedial program.  

  Courses will be held at Innisdale Secondary School in Barrie.
  Science dates:  July 2 - 11, 2013.
  English dates: July 15 - 24, 2013. 
  Monday – Thursday, 9 AM – 3:30 PM

• Grade 9 Math Transfer Course

  This transfer course will provide students who have successfully completed Grade 9, Applied Math (MFM1P) with an opportunity to achieve the expectations not covered in that course but included in Grade 9, Academic Math (MPM1D).  On successful completion of this transfer course, students may proceed to Grade 10, Academic (MPM2D).
  
  Prerequisite: Foundations of Mathematics, Grade 9, Applied (MFM1P) 
  
  The Math Transfer course will be offered at Innisdale Secondary School July 2 - 12, 2013.
  Monday - Thursday, 9 AM - 3:30 pm
  Fridays, 9 AM - 2:30 PM

• Grade 10 Civics and Careers Credit

  These courses allow students to complete their required Civics (CHV2O) and/or Careers (GLC2O) during the summer. 

  Each course is offered in a 2 week schedule at Innisdale Secondary School in Barrie.
  Careers dates: July 2 – 12 , 2013
  Civics dates: July 15 – 25 , 2012
  Monday - Thursday, 9 AM – 3:30 PM 
  Friday 9 AM - 2:30 PM

• Grade 11 and 12 Credit Courses

  This program offers students the opportunity to complete a senior credit course during the summer months.  

  Courses are offered at Innisdale Secondary School, July 2 – 26 or at the Barrie Learning Centres, July 29 – August 23.
  Monday – Thursday, 9 AM – 3:30 PM
  Fridays, 9 AM - 2:30 PM 

  Limited bus transportation is available for July courses only.  Bus route information will be available here June 2013.

  There is a $50 CASH refundable textbook deposit to be collected by your teacher on the first day of class.

• Collingwood Grade 12 English

  This program offers students the opportunity to complete a Grade 12 English credit course during the summer months.  

  Two English (ENG4C & ENG4U) courses are offered at the Collingwood Learning Centre from July 29 - August 26, 2013.
  Monday – Friday, 9 AM – 3 PM

• Cooperative Education

  This 2 credit cooperative education package is being offered to SCDSB students enrolled in SHSM, OYAP, LEAP, Over the Top or Adult programs from July 3 – August 16, 2013. 

  Students must be referred to the program by their home school and approved by their Principal, Vice Principal or Guidance Department.

  The student must have a Simcoe County placement arranged at time of registration. The employer must be made aware of the co-op requirements.  Paid employment may be approved. Unpaid placements are equally considered.

  Co-op students will be required to attend and participate in a minimum of 4 group sessions before and during the co-op program. All co-op students will demonstrate new learning at their co-op placement as outlined in their Personal Placement Learning Plan (PPLP).

  A registration form, status sheet and IEP information must be submitted by June 3, 2013 to your local Learning Centre. 

  All current students can use the registration forms below or those available at their school to register.  Students must get approval from their Principal, Vice Principal or Guidance Department to register for a summer program.  Students must the take their approved form to their local Learning Centre to complete their registration.

  Students not currently enrolled in a school must visit their local Learning Centre to enrol. Please take a copy of your transcript or status sheet to allow Learning Centre staff to have the correct enrolment information.
