
International and Indigenous Languages Program 2019/2020
Learn a new language for free!
The Simcoe County District School Board offers children in grades 1 to 8 an opportunity to learn and/or maintain a language other than French or English. Whether you enroll your children in this program to learn a new language, understand a new culture or to extend their knowledge of their first language, every student can benefit from this program.
Eligibility:
Students enrolled in grades 1 to 8 are eligible to enroll in this program.
Languages:
Barrie: Arabic, Farsi, Korean, Mandarin, Ojibwe, Russian, Spanish, Ukrainian, Urdu
Bradford: Dari, Mandarin, Russian, Tamil

Saturday mornings from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. starting September 14, 2019
Class dates: Sep 14, 21, 28; Oct 5, 19, 26; Nov 2, 9, 16, 23, 30; Dec 7, 14; Jan 11, 18, 25; Feb 1, 8, 22, 29; March 7, 28; April 4, 18, 25
Monday Program (Spanish and Mandarin Only):
Monday Evenings from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. starting September 16, 2019

Please note that the Monday Program will be held at the Barrie location only.

Inclement Weather:
In the event of class cancellation due to inclement weather we will post this information on our website as well as Twitter.
Cost:
There is no cost for this program; however, we must have a minimum number of students per language in order to offer the class. Most classes fill quickly and are established on a first come, first served basis.
Volunteer:
If you are a high school student interested in volunteering with the International Language Program, submit a resume and cover letter to Amanda Hickling at ahickling@scdsb.on.ca Please specify the proficiency in the language that you are interested in helping with. A reference from your school will be required. We thank all applicants; however, only successful candidates will be contacted for an interview.
